In the early 19th century a group emerged in the Methodist Church who felt their denomination had become stale and tame. The wanted to rediscover 'Primitive Methodism'. The Wesleyans thought they were ill-disciplined, over-enthusiastic and just plain loud! So much so that they expelled them from the Methodist Church.
They became the Primitive Methodist Church, but were often described as 'The Ranters'. One of the most incredible christians I met when I first became a follower of Jesus always described herself as a 'Ranter'.
I'm in the strange position of working in the heart of the Methodist Church and yet often finding myself wanting to rant about how institutional and boring we've become.
This blog is a place to let off steam and perhaps imagine a more radical future for the church I love despite my frustrations with it.
